Restoration of Moon
Moon was built in 1935 by Harland and Wolff for the star class fleet of the Grand
Union Canal Carrying Company as a 'Little Woolwich' butty boat. She remained in
the GUCCCo fleet until it was nationalised in 1948. She later went on to work for
Union Canal Carriers of Braunston during the 1980s where she was mostly used as
a camping boat.
In 2001, Moon had a cabin conversion fitted to be used as a houseboat and has moored
at Sileby Mill for many years on the River Soar. She was brought down to Sheet Stores
in October 2010 for some patches to be welded on the hull where she is wearing thin.
